22nd October is International Stammering Awareness Day (ISAD). STAMMA has published a video and guidance for healthcare providers, and a “Don’t be a knob” video ad and guidance for service providers more generally.
Write to your GP
STAMMA (the British Stammering Association) is encouraging people to write to your GP (stamma.org), to help make booking a GP appointment less challenging if you stammer. A template letter is included there. Also related to this:
- For those working in healthcare: Stammering and healthcare (stamma.org), including video and downloadable Patient Contact Guide.
- Campaign page: Make GP bookings more accessible (stamma.org).
“Don’t be a knob”
STAMMA has also published a satirical video ad encouraging companies to make space for their customers who stammer: ISAD 2023: Don’t jump in (stamma.org) or YouTube. STAMMA says the ad will be shown on cinema screens in January 2024.
The video ad points viewers to Training (stamma.org), offering workshops and a Stammering & Customer Contact guide to download.
A poster campaign will also be rolled out.
Among other things, the video ad highlights problems of Voice recognition telephone systems for many people who stammer.
