Google Analytics

Like most websites, this site uses Google Analytics to track user interaction. We use this data to determine the number of people using the site, to better understand how they find and use the site’s web pages and to see their journey through the website.

Although Google Analytics records data such as your geographical location, device, internet browser and operating system, none of this information personally identifies you to us. We have set this website so that only a partial record of your IP address is sent to Google Analytics, with the last few characters or ‘octet’ removed. This is known as ‘IP anonymization’ and reduces the ability for anyone to use the IP address to identify an individual. See Google’s Privacy policy.

Google Analytics makes use of cookies, details of which can be found on Google’s developer guides. Cookies are small files of text which websites such as this one set on your computer or other internet device. They are used to uniquely identify your browser or to store information or settings on your device. You can find out more about cookies by visiting cookiepedia.co.uk/all-about-cookies.

Disabling cookies on your internet browser will stop Google Analytics from tracking any part of your visit to pages within this website. Also Google produces an opt-out tool which you can add to your browser to prevent data being used by Google Analytics: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=en

You can delete any cookies (lifewire.com) already set by Google Analytics in your browser.

Hotjar

We also use Hotjar in order to better understand our users’ needs and to optimise this website. Hotjar is a technology service that helps us to better understand our users’ experience (e.g. how much time they spend on which pages, which links they choose to click, what users do and don’t like, etc.) and this enables us to build and maintain our website with user feedback.

Hotjar uses cookies and other technologies to collect data on our users’ behaviour and their devices. This includes a device’s IP address, processed during your session and stored in a de-identified form; Hotjar sets the last octet of IPv4 addresses (all connections to Hotjar are made via IPv4) to 0 to ensure the full IP address is never written to disk. It also includes device screen size, device type (unique device identifiers), browser information, geographic location (country only), and the preferred language used to display our website. Hotjar stores this information on our behalf in a pseudonymized user profile. Hotjar is contractually forbidden to sell any of the data collected on our behalf.

For further details, please see the ‘about Hotjar’ section of Hotjar’s support site.

You can stop Hotjar collecting data: www.hotjar.com/privacy/do-not-track/. You can also delete any cookies (lifewire.com) already set by Hotjar in your browser.
